The Novia Scotia was bred by skilled Canadian hunters, and originates in Canada. They were bred to hunt ducks similar to the way a fox would do so. They were bred by crossing retrievers and working spaniels. They are trained to chase the fowl into gun range, and once they are shot to retrieve them, and bring them to their master.
