History of The Bluetick Coonhound

The Bluetick Coon hound is a dog that has been created through many other breeds. At first, these dogs were classified as English Coonhounds until the breed was given a name to call its own. The Bluetick is a hound dog that was used for hunting raccoons and other mammals.

• The Bluetick Coonhound was recognized by the AKC in 2008. It stands in the miscellaneous class.
• The Blue tick Coonhound's blood consists of English coonhounds, Foxhounds and Curs.
• Before the breed was given its true name, puppies that had been born with blue ticking called Blueticks while puppies with red ticking were English.
